Beware of Unauthorised GS1 Barcode Numbers

GS1 Singapore is the only recognised body in Singapore authorised to issue and administer the Global GS1 barcoding standards and systems.

Members are to note that GS1 has no other appointed resellers.

During application of barcode numbers, members will have to be careful when purchasing barcodes from
unauthorised sources such as websites that claim to be resellers of GS1 Singapore. These unauthorised sources are misrepresenting themselves as GS1 Singapore and the barcodes that they sell could have integrity issues.

Members must understand that unauthorised barcode number sellers potentially undermine the integrity of the GS1 system.

Please be aware that if you obtain your barcode numbers from an
unauthorised source, you may suffer losses in the event that you need to re-label or repackage your products. Such situations happen if your products are rejected by retailers or if your barcodes are found to be a duplicate of another GS1 member's number. This will lead to possible legal charges being brought against your company.

If in doubt or for any further enquiries, please contact GS1 Singapore at 6826 3077 or email us at contact@gs1.org.sg.

Amazon & UPC/EAN Codes: All the Answers for Amazon Sellers

In 2016, Amazon quietly made a change to its Product UPC and GTINs policy (Seller Central login required). It now states that they verify the authenticity of product UPCs by checking the GS1 database. UPCs that do not match the information provided by GS1 will be considered invalid. Amazon recommends obtaining UPCs directly from GS1 (and not from other third parties selling UPC licenses) to ensure the appropriate information is reflected in the GS1 database.
